At Creative Arts Dance Studios we offer classes for all ages, from kinder through to adults, catering for all your dance and performing arts needs.

We can tailor a program especially to suit you and our discount packages keep the cost affordable.

All  classes (Except for Kinder Dance) are open for the participating students only.  This is to ensure that our students can get the most out of their tuition. At the end of terms 1, 2 and 3, selected classes are open for viewing so that parents and friends can see what the students are doing in class and how much they have learned.

Dress requirements are outlined for each class. Grooming is important to a dancer and to assist the teacher in making corrections to posture and technique. No school uniforms or denim please.

Casual rates are available for both OPEN & ADULT classes.

Class Descriptions

Babywearing Dance Class

45min class

CADS aims to bring dance and energy into your life whilst dancing with your baby! We strive to create a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment where you can build positive relationships with families in your local community. We aim to provide recreational babywearing dance classes to mums, dads, aunties, carers or anyone who wants to dance, we know people will love it! You don’t even need to know how to dance, the desire to share a special moment of music and movement with your baby is all you need! Class dance styles include jazz, ballet, contemporary & hip hop.

Dress Requirement: Comfortable clothing & supportive hugabub, wrap or similar.

Shoes: Comfortable sneakers or dance shoes.

Kinder Dance (2 to 5 years) 45mins

A fun 45mins class which introduces children to dance in an enjoyable way.  This class aims to teach basic co-ordination and movement, general appreciation and understanding of music and rhythm.  The children are introduced to Classical, Tap and Jazz dance in these classes.  In addition they do some tumbling and singing.  There are morning or afternoon Kinder Dance classes which may suit your timetable.  Children are expected to go into class without mum or dad.

Dress Requirements: Leotard and either skirt/bike shorts/tights.

Shoes: Pink Ballet & Tan Tap Shoes

Hair: Pony Tail or Bun

6YRS & Under Classes:

ACROBATICS

A 30min or 45min hour class introducing technique whilst having a lot of fun!  

Dress Requirements: Leotard & bike shorts/tights or Crop top & shorts/tights or Singlet/t-shirt & shorts/tights 

Shoes: Black Jazz Shoes

Hair: Ponytail

CLASSICAL BALLET (CSTD)

A 30min or 45min hour class introducing technique, discipline, correct posture and the foundations of classical ballet.  

Dress Requirements: Leotard, pink ballet stockings, optional ballet skirt

Shoes: Pink Ballet Shoes

Hair: Bun

JAZZ (CSTD)

A 30min or 45min fast paced class introducing technique, flexibility and choreography.

Dress Requirements: Leotard & bike shorts/tights or Crop top & shorts/tights or Single/t-shirt & shorts/tights

8YRS & Under to Open Classes

ACROBATICS

Classes for all ages and levels are available in Acrobatics.  Acrobatics enhances children’s strength and flexibility and is exceptionally good for all growing bodies.  Besides this the children just “Love It”. Advanced Acrobatics classes are available and by invitation only. Students are encouraged to train in at least one other discipline of dance or technique to compliment and support their acrobatic training.

AERIAL LYRA

Aerial Lyra is a circular steel apparatus (resembling a hula hoop) suspended from the ceiling, on which circus artists may perform aerial acrobatics. It can be used static, spinning, or swinging. Students will learn the fundamentals of aerial acrobatics whilst building strong & flexible bodies. Aerial Lyra requires a lot of upper body strength and core strength. 

CLASSICAL BALLET (CSTD)

Classical Ballet teaches grace, elegance, line and discipline and is essential for the student who is serious about dancing.  Classical classes are the basis on which to learn any form of dance.  Students are prepared for C.S.T.D. (The Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing) Grade and Vocational Examinations. Exams are encouraged but are not compulsory. Two classes per week required for exam entry.  If you are unable to attend both classes each week, you must understand your children will not get the same stage time in the end of year concert routine as those children that do. Classical ballet is compulsory for elite eisteddfod students.

CONTEMPORARY

A popular dance form incorporating moves from many styles of dance.

CONDITIONING

A class designed for the serious dancer wanting to improve their overall body strength and control. A full body workout designed for dancers. Build strength not bulk in areas that well protect and improve a young dancers body for future years to come.

Dress Requirements: Leotard & bike shorts/tights or Crop top & shorts/tights or Singlet & shorts/tights 

Shoes: Black Jazz or pirouette shoes

HIP HOP

All the latest music, all the latest dance steps, this popular class is sure to be a favourite.

JAZZ (CSTD)

These classes are quick moving and challenging, featuring today’s Modern jazz styles including appropriate technique. Jazz technique, commercial & broadway styles are taught throughout the year in all age groups.  Exams are available but not compulsory in these classes for all ages in the C.S.T.D syllabus.  The jazz grades continue right through to Diploma level. For exam entry in Grades 2 and above it is a requirement to also take a weekly ballet class.

LYRICAL

Lyrical dance is a style of dance created by merging ballet and jazz. The style is usually danced at a faster pace than ballet but not as fast as jazz. Lyrical dancing focuses on the expression of strong emotion, the style concentrates more on individual approach and expressiveness than the precision of the dancer's movements with a keen focus on technique & alignment.

Shoes: Pirouette shoes

Hair: Ponytail or Bun

BROADWAY JAZZ/MUSICAL THEATRE

This performance style of Jazz was popularised to a large extent by Bob Fosse’s work, which is exemplified by Broadway shows such as Chicago, Cabaret and Sweet Charity. Theatre Jazz is also used in large scale musicals today such as Fame, Wicked and Grease, and the TV show Smash. Singing and Acting training is important to all dancers, as it enhances their performance skills and encourages them to speak and perform expressively.  The children are taught to be effective communicators and it increases confidence and self esteem.

PROGRESSIONS

A class suited for those students who are serious about improving their technique. The class focuses on flexibility, strength, turns and leaps as well as training students in the art of improvisation.

Shoes: Black Jazz or pirouette shoes

SINGING

Singing classes are offered for groups or individuals. Those dancers keen to be a triple threat are highly encouraged to add singing to their repertoire.

TAP (CSTD)

A solid learning ground for all keen tap students.  Students work towards C.S.T.D Tap examinations but exams are not compulsory. The tap grades continue right through to Diploma level.

Girls: Leotard & bike shorts/tights or Crop top & shorts/tights or Singlet/t-shirt & shorts/tights 

Boys: Dance pants, singlet or t-shirt.

ADULT CLASSES

Don’t let the kids have all the fun, come to an adult class.  Classes are very reasonably priced.  No pressure, just come and pay on a casual basis to suit your busy schedules, which makes them free of obligation, with no enrolment required.  They are a lot of FUN.  Currently offering adult classes in broadway jazz, tap and ballet.

PRIVATE TUITION

Private tuition is designed for those wanting that one on one training. These lessons give students the opportunity to specialise or improve on a particular style. Lessons can also be used for solo performance work. Private tuition is available for all styles and all ages. 

EISTEDDFOD TEAMS

Eisteddfods are competitions held at different venues around Melbourne. Eisteddfods are not compulsory but I feel they are an essential part of the student’s development. It teaches discipline in a team, communication, self confidence, and the kids LOVE THEM!!!

All students doing eisteddfod classes for ages 7 to 15, must do at least two ballet, a jazz, an acro and a tap class to be part of the eisteddfod team. Eisteddfod classes are then free. There are small entry/participation fees charged, as well as costume costs. Eisteddfod groups may also get to perform at fetes, and other organised functions.

All students may be needed for 2 weekend workshops. Parents and students will be required to sign a commitment note before the students can be included in the routines.

Students interested in doing a Solo, Duo or Trio at Eisteddfods, please inform us when enrolling if you are interested, so we can organise specific times to learn the routines.
